Землетрясение произошедшее на северо-востоке Японии стало самым сильным за всю историю страны, сообщает Главное метеорологическое управление страны. Его магнитуда оценивается как 8,8.

По данным Геологической службы США, магнитуда землетрясения составила 8,9. Его эпицентр находился в 373 километрах северо-восточнее Токио, очаг залегал на глубине 24 километров. Серия сильных толчков на северо-востоке Японии и последовавшее за ними цунами нанесло ущерб тихоокеанскому побережью страны.

A massive 8.9 magnitude quake hit northeast Japan on Friday, causing many injuries, fires and a ten-metre (33-ft) tsunami along parts of the country’s coastline.
